Important Supreme Court Cases
Marbury v. Madison- Gave the Judicial System power called Judicial Review which balanced out the government.
McCulloch v. Maryland- This case made it to where states couldn't create or choose laws that were superior to the federal government, federal government> state.
Miranda v. Arizona- A case that made it a requirement for police officers to state peoples' rights when they are being arrested. Miranda was released because he didn't know he didn't have to say anything while being questioned. Which is where the saying " you have the right to remain silent..." comes from.
Plessy v. Ferguson- The case that made the separate but equal doctrine. Separating schools was illegal unless you had a mixed school
Brown v. Board of Education- The case that got rid of the separate but equal doctrine. Made segregation illegal in schools.
